Popular Dhallywood actress Pori Moni has been officially dropped from an upcoming award ceremony in Chittagong following intense protests from local journalists. The organizers of the event confirmed this development on Saturday afternoon.
The Core Reason Behind the Exclusion
According to the organizers, they had signed the official contract with the actress about 17 days before her recent controversial incident with a journalist at the Dhaka court premises. However, her alleged disrespect toward the media professional sparked widespread anger among journalists across Chittagong. Standing in solidarity with the media workers and their legitimate demands, the organizing committee ultimately decided to remove her from the guest list.
Facebook Post and Media Backlash
The backlash began on Friday night when Pori Moni shared a promotional poster for the 'Chittagong Fashion Vanguard Award 2026' on her Facebook wall with the caption, "See you, dear Chittagong". Shortly after, a reporter from a national daily shared the same poster and drew the organizers' attention. He demanded that Pori Moni publicly apologize to his colleague Rabi from the daily Samakal and his mother to resolve the issue, or else the organizers should start looking for an alternative guest.
This specific demand quickly resonated with other media professionals working in Chittagong, escalating the resentment. Faced with such mounting pressure, the organizers had no choice but to drop Pori Moni and have already released a brand new poster for the event. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 28 at a community center in the Khulshi area of Chittagong.
